Ian proposed this feature for Ftrunk on the FTrunk_users Yahoo! list in August of 2003. I couldn't comment on it until January of 2004. Read messages #105, 371, and 372 to see why. I saw the TrunkView implementation (looks a lot like Netdraw) some months ago but have not seen how FTrunk does this.morfis said:You've seen the basic model that Ian implemented
Skyrails is definitely slower with more complex graphs. There are tricks around this like 3D with alpha channel weighted colors; collapsing equivalently connected nodes into one. That is an art and science all to itself. It works well until there are a lot of datapoints (something US monitors will see more than European ones). The 2D representation becomes difficult to interpret when cluttered and a 3D representation can sometimes help a bit there.
Cool. I'll take a look.Have a look at http://www.visualcomplexity.com/vc/ for lots of examples (wish I'd found that site a long time ago!)
No. The author of skyrails has openly discussed supporting this in the future. The export file is a one-click snapshot of the site history. Some tools for filtering the data further will be needed to avoid overwhelming the chosen visualization tool.Is the output generated in real time?
