It’s sounding more and more like CG Base. Traffic consists of , closing lanes for vehicle inspections, u turns or turnarounds for people without correct credentials or waiting on sponsors, gym watchstander.
Confirmed it last night, heard a unit doing rounds, “ Helipad secured free off debri, Buoy yard secured”. Submitted

Larry 51,

What I posted on the subject was all of what I knew, nothing more.

My source was a long time monitor who specifically drove to the Dismal Swamp one Saturday about 3-4 years ago then for the purpose of documenting their comm operations. What I posted was his experiences emailed me when on site. I may be mistaken, but I believe at the time he also emailed me a jpg of what was not much of a vhf antenna outside on the facility's base operations office. I remember he specifically mentioned also all the comms were via HTs, and included the frequency, NAC and the user id as the USF&WS.

Here's a great idea. Instead of back and forth postings on the subject, common sense would dictate that one or more of the few advanced monitors living in the Portsmouth and/or Chesapeake areas who are a much closer drive in their vehicle with mobile scanning/search capability or use their 436HT or Whistler HT search and scan capabilities. Then drive the 10-15 miles or whatever to the Dismal Swamp operations and determine "eyes on" what the operation actually is and confirm for yourself and others. That way whomever then can return home and update RR VA as to the current status.

John:)

I confirmed who’s using it within my range. I drove as close to the base as I could and my observations are what I posted. But I know with my setup, there’s no way I could pickup the dismal swamp, especially if all they had was a small VHF antenna. So based on my findings and observations, it’s USCG Base Portsmouth Security.

Sorry John. I only asked because you mentioned having a VA database and I was hoping you had some additional info. I'll quit the back-and-forth postings on the subject and figure it out for myself.

Monitored the Great Dismal Swamp this afternoon on 169.7875. Conversation discussed using the repeater and cutting up fallen trees "near the lake."
