I've been hearing a road dept on 154.570, PL 192.8. I can't pin point where its coming from. From the PL, Hunterdon comes to mind but you never know. I also thought I heard a reference to 15th street. Anyone have any idea?

On 154.570 MHz, the Boston Market food chain is licensed in Hunterdon County. It is quite possible that you heard their private snow removal crews working on their parking lot. I know McDonalds Corp. is also licensed on that frequency, however I believe that's ONLY for their drive-in mic. If it was the Boston Market snow crews you were hearing, you had to have been fairly close to one in order to pick up the signal though. Just about all licenses on that frequency are on simplex and limited on the amount of power they are allowed to use. Those are the only two businesses licensed in Hunterdon County on that frequency. If it was anyone else, they were using the frequency illegally.

It's a MURS frequency. Anyone can use it as long as they stick to 2 watts.

In that case, why do businesses even bother to pay money to the government and get licensed to use that frequency in the first place? Boston Market for example? They should just go to the local Walmart or Target and buy their radios there. It just doesn't make sense to me.

My 2 cents.....its probably just a snow removal contractor doing a large lot in the area, being its a low power dot channel.

If you have a grandfathered license under the Part 90 rules, you could have additional privileges than a MURS user. For example, you might have been licensed for 50W mobile radios; you could continue to use them even though a MURS user would be limited to 2W.

Any 2nd.grader would know, that Radio Wave shoot up ! During a snow/ice event as we have on Val.Day,the weather couild have pulled the signal from far away, and deflected it towards your area. This is especially true if you were useing a "New" antenna !
It could have been from lets say,PA,MI,or any other state in the storms path.
