Use one codeplug to program a fleet of radios

Hi All,

I will soon be responsible for reprogramming all of our radios for my EMS organization as we move to narrowband channels. We will have one CDM1250, two HT1250, and ten HT750. All of which will have the same 16 channels.

Is there a way for me to make a master codeplug and just modify things like the MDC IDs when programming each individual radio? Creating 13 otherwise identical codeplugs seems like a huge waste of time... there must be a better way... even if I have to make just 3 (one for each different model).

This may be as simple as just writing the codeplug to all the radios, but I feel like this could lead to problems given that the serial number etc is stored in the codeplug. Or is the serial just not written?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, spent the last two days doing that exact thing. Just keep the MDC field open, change and program.

The only issue I encountered is the differing codeplug structures if you have units with different firmware levels. It will complain that it can't write to a radio with older firmware if the codeplug is based on a pull from a unit with a newer one. 5.17.02 is the latest for non 4 line portables if I recall correctly. I spent the extra time to write the latest to each as I went just to keep everything clean and up to date.

You will need a seperate codeplug for each distinct model. You cant take a cdm1250 codeplug and write it to a ht1250 or a 750 even though it has the same number of channels.

Also the long model number must be exactly the same.

I retired two years ago so my memory may not be fresh and current but here goes.

CPS allows drag and drop. Open a cps window make the changes to the program, open a second window for the other model radio, select the data to be transferred, click, drag from the first CPS screen to the second one, unclick to drop it there, done.

That was how I did it when going from XTS3000 to XTS5000, I think.

There is no drag and drop in the pro series CPS...

You can only export the LS Trunking site in CPS. I've been yelling for more drag and drop or export for years. Motorola are you listening?
