I'm not familiar with Whistler scanners, I personally own and use SDS 100 & 200 scanners, thus the reason for this inquiry.

I have a friend who is a Senior Citizen on a fixed income who wants to acquire a digital scanner, but cannot afford the price of an SDS scanner. I advised her that I would research the WS1065 for her.

She resides in Henry County, Ohio

She would be scanning the Northwest Ohio Regional Public Safety System (NORPSS) using the Hamler and Wauseon towers for Henry County SO, Fire and EMS And Napoleon PD, Fire, EMS.

She would also be scanning the Defiance and Holgate towers for the Ohio MARCS-IP: Multi-Agency Radio Communications frequencies for the Ohio Highway Patrol District One.

My questions are,

1) Does anyone own and use a Whistler WS1065 to monitor the above mentioned frequencies, or those similar to them?

and

2) If so, how does the scanner perform scanning those frequencies?

and

3) Would you recommend this scanner to my Senior Citizen friend on a fixed income?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I feel I must be very sure before I recommend her to buy this scanner because even a purchase of $270.00 is a major expenditure to her.

Looks to work in that area ANALOG and P25 Phase 1 not sure if Simulcast is used.
Simulcast would be used ONLY on the Lucas County (Toledo) tower

Let's see the response you get about how well the scanner will work. If it is favorable, I would be happy to create an ARC500 file for Henry County using the sites you specified and simplify the alpha tags and operation for a senior citizen. Wait until you hear that the file has been created before downloading and installing ARC500 Basic. You will be able to use the 30 day free trial period to your advantage. If at a later time you need to reprogram the scanner, you can pay to register the software for continued use. It appears that the PC/IF programming cable comes with the scanner.
