To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all,

Ive been looking to add a voice inversion board into my F121 radios. The part number i've found is UT-109. I have seen several places selling them with an "01" and "02" following the part number. I assume the 01 and 02 refer to different versions.

I currently have a F33 and an f50v and both of these have the voice inversion built-in. I tested it out and they will talk to eachother with the scrambler turned on without issues. My concern before I spend the cash on the add-on board for the f121 is which version do I need. Or is there even a difference.

Any help would be appreciated!

ICOM UT-109 Non-Rolling analog type voice scrambler unit
The UT-109 have 2 versions.
#01: Low AF level version
#02: High AF level version

Above is the description for the two types of UT-109.

You would have to do more research on your F33 and an F50v
and find out which type they have to answer your question.

The UT-109 (both 1 and 2 versions) have 32 possible settings. The UT-110's rolling scramblers have 1050, I believe. But the inversion scrambler that comes within the the F33, F70, F50 have one setting and are NOT compatible with either the UT-109 or UT-110. They are all compatible with each other. Meaning that the factory scrambler in the F50, F33 and F70 will all work with each other. But they will not work with the UT-109. The factory inversion scrambler within the radios is set at 3388 hertz. I don;t know the 32 settings for the UT-109.

You will need a UT-109 version 2 board for the f121. Both versions will work, but the version 1 will have lower audio and will not sound well when recieving.

UT-109 Version 2 is the correct version for the F121 but it still won't work with the factory inversion scramblers in the F50 and F33.

Correct it will not work with the "built in" inversion scrambing available with the F50V or F33 or all of the radios offering that feature. The F50V can be ordered with a UT-109 from the factory, the F33 can have the Ut-109 added at anytime.
