Something to consider using a transceiver for scanning is there are FCC rules about programming in transmit frequencies that you are not licensed for. There is also the possibility of accidentally transmitting on race frequencies and causing interference if the tx and tx freqs are both programmed and you make a mistake trying to answer a GMRS type call on the same radio.
