• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a cable that has recently stopped working. I popped the cover open and noticed a wire loose. Does anyone have a picture or any knowledge of what color goes where?

Unless you tell us the exact make and model of programming cable nobody is going to be able to help you.
Posting a picture of the board in your cable might help identify it.

Just because it works with a UV-82HP means nothing. There are many different cables made by different manufacturers that all have the same pinout and all work with Baofeng and other radios.

You can't go by wire color. The same manufacturer could use different multiconductor cables from different suppliers with different wire colors connected to different pins in different production runs.

There could be more wires in the cable than are actually used. Are you sure it broke off or was just unused? You need to trace the wire to the connector pin.

It looks to me like the cable only uses 3 wires; transmit data, receive data and ground.
The 3 connected wires don't look like they are soldered very well but hard to tell from the pic.
The 4th loose wire was probably never connected to anything.
Something else is probably wrong.
Does the cable work with other radios?
Does the cable work with other computers?
Are you sure the jacks on the radio aren't dirty or damaged?

Jack's are clean. Only have the one radio. Using a new computer. The old one I had is so messed up it takes 10 minutes to boot up, and several minutea just to get chirp to open. So it's in the closet. Using windows 10 on the new laptop. Works perfect for my btech radio, but cannot find a com port for the uv-82. I don't remember the error code but it says something about path couldnt be found (or routed) don't remember exactly. The cable worked last time I used it but that was a year or so ago.

The com port has nothing to do with the radio, it's the chip in the cable. You probably have a software or driver problem. I don't use Windows so I can't help with that. If you copy and paste the exact error code then somebody else might be able to help.
