Question Regarding ScanRec

Went to the download section of RR.com and downloaded the ScanRec program. Printed out the FAQ's and still can't get the program operational. Anyone have any hints/help or a newer download link other than what is listed here on RR.com?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I would much rather use ScanRec than my current set-up of a vox-activated recorder plugged into the headphone jack of my scanner.

I'm sure most experienced scanner buffs are aware of this tip, if not: If you tape with a scanner that doesn't allow you to turn off or mute the audio, you will find that using the headphone jack instead of the line-out jack will allow you to record unattended without disturbing your housemates. I've used this while taping from my BC890, both BC895's, and both BC780's and it works great.

Again, any help with ScanRec will be greatly appreciated.

At what stage does it fail to work? I mean does it open, can you specifiy a record file, etc. Where does it fail? :?:

I can download the program and open it.

The 'problem' starts when I select the file to save it to. I open a new folder in the 'My Music' folder. According to the FAQ's, after selecting the file to save to I should then be able to select compression and then be able to press the 'Record' button. I open the new folder and that is as far as I get.

I am having a little difficulty in following your steps as you seem to refer to folders and files interchageably so...Try these steps in this order and tell me where it fails.
1. When the program opens press the &lt;OPEN> button.
2. When the windows file dialog box opens, either select a current WAV file or specify a new file name in the "File Name" box. (You would use normal windows command and navigation to arrive at the folder you wnat your file to be saved in. If you specify an existing file name, you will have allow it to be overwritten.)
3. Once the file is specified/selected you are presented with another dialog box Titled: Select compression format or PCM for no compression. Take the default (which should be PCM) and press &lt;OK>
4. At this point, only two of the five buttons along the bottom should be active. &lt;Record> and &lt;Close>. If you press &lt;Record> it will start doing it's thing. Attached is a picture of what it should look like at this stage. (Notice the name that will save the recording is specified in the title bar.)

By the way, what quality audio does anyone like to use with Scanrec? I always find myself using a really high quality setting. What is default or what setting do you recommend with audio?

I always just use PCM. As a matter of fact the picture I posted (except for the file name) is the way mine always looks prior to starting to record.

Yes, ScanRec is working.......just fine. It's the loose nut in front of the computer keyboard and scanners in the listening post that needs to be checked!

PCM the default, as stated above.

Do you use 8,000 Hz?

I use the minimum: 8,000KHz, 8 Bit, Stereo --- 15 kb/sec

I wish I would have found ScanRec before I found the program I am currently using. However, I haven't had any problems with it so I can't complain.

I use RecAll Pro to record my scanner traffic. I can compress it down to 0.057 Mb per min or about 84 Mb per 24 hours.

Anybody else using Trunkstar?

I've been using Signal Intelligence software for all my scanners since I purchased my PRO-92. I use three different versions of it for my PRO-92 and 2067, my BC-780, and for the PRO-96. The only problem I have encountered is with the PRO-96 not following the ID list I've programmed into it for a Motorola Type I system. When I program the PRO-96 ID list manually the radio follows the talkgroups and displays the alphanumerics just fine. When I download the program into the radio it disregards the list I've programmed and will only follow the talkgroups in the open or talkgroup search mode.

Type II systems work just fine.

For the Bearcat 780 I've not been able to get it to record. A computer guru friend tells me that I don't have the sound card configured correctly, however, he won't help me with it because he dislikes radios or anything to do with them.

I programmed a friend's 96 with the same system when he bought the 96 over a year ago and I had the same problem. I had purchased the Trunkstar 9235 software shortly after it was released as I anticipated purchasing a PRO-96. Now a year later I'm having the same problem with this same Type I system on my recently purchased PRO-96. I can't believe that nobody has mentioned this problem to the software manufacturer before. Is it that no one listens to Type I systems anymore? I'm in contact with Signal Intelligence on the problem and recently sent them a uploaded version of my program where I manually entered the talkgroups and alphanumerics and the original program I wrote and downloaded to the radio which results in the radio not following my programmed trunkgroups.

I don't see Signal Intelligence software mentioned or talked about much on any forums. Does anyone else use it?

Sounds like a software bug to me.

You need to find better "friends".

No, lots of people list to Type I system and there is nothing wrong with the radio. It is obvious that your software choice leaves a lot to be desired. As to not believing no one mentioning it to the manufacturer, why haven't you? I certainly won't mention it to them as I use software that works.

I think you understand why it isn't mentioned much. Most people use better (and cheaper) software.

I use Scan Control - site http://www.scannersoft.com/. This works on my BC 245, BC250, BC780, BC785. Software supports programming and control &amp; monitoring of my scanners. Really like this software.

Thanks for the comments on software. I have concluded that I'm going to look into different software than Signal Intelligence as I had contacted them regarding the problems I mentioned in mid February to early March and the problem is not resolved. I anticipate purchasing a PRO-2096 soom to be used as a base station, and then another later to use as a mobile. I need dependable software for these applications as well as something that works better with my PRO-96.

396T 1.08.07 upgrade

Anyone having a problem opening the firmware update 1.08.07? Can download ok but windows says unknown file type.

Download the firmware loader file, Install_BC_VUP_v1.0.0.8.exe, first. Once it has been saved to your pc, then run the file. It will install to C:\Program Files\Uniden\BC_VUP
Copy the firmware file (BCD396T_V1_08_07.scn) to that folder
Connect the scanner to the pc with the cable and run the firmware loader. It will be a program accessible off your Start menu, i.e. Start-> Programs ->Uniden -> BC_VUP
Be sure to pick the correct Com port (generally Com1).
Be sure that your browser did not change the extension on the file, or add an extra extension when you downloaded. The firmware loader is correctly Install_BC_VUP_v1.0.0.8.exe. Some browsers try to append a *.zip extension on the end.
For the firmware, BCD396T_V1_08_07.scn, some users have had their browers try to add a text (*.txt) extention on it. Make sure both are saved exactly as on the Uniden web page.

Hi..Thanks for the info..This one http://www.scannersoft.com/ or Scan Control, I think this is the only one that will work for the newer PRO-2052 scanners. At least the only one that I could get to work. It also works with other scanners..Cheers..Keithmj
