That's not what I heard today. I heard they are going to 800 MHz they decided that a couple of weeks ago.

So they will be on both 800 MHz and 700 MHz so will you be able to listen to them on just a 800 MHz digital scanner or do you need to get one that does both

Not sure if you will need a 700mhz scanner or not, im still a little confused myself on how they're doing this. I just know they will have 4 800mhz control channels for VA Beach's system and will be adding a several more 700mhz control channels on the ORION which will make a total of 15 control channels all on the same system 1E0.

I programmed the supposedly defunct VB P25 system. No active CC but heard a busy phone beeping for a short period when doing Analyz on 866.7875. Nothing on the other 11 frequencies and nothing else on above freq since.

I also did that three days ago and heard nothing! Had to go to the mobile area of this site to find them due to them being removed from the DB. Guess I will have to get a 396 or 996 soon since my 346XT and 15X wont pick up much after the change. I guess EMS & PD will also be making the change?

All of the radios have been programmed with new digital zones for police, fire, EMS and sheriff. The new zones are exact duplicates of the existing related analog zones with new talkgroups and control channels. The channels used for talking to the hospitals are staying analog. The new zones are not active yet and the radios will not attempt to affiliate on the new zones which leads me think that a new control channel or channels are being created for the new digital talkgroups. Cut over to the new talkgroups is scheduled for June 2011.

New system will be a 14 channel system, the 10 removed frequencies plus 4 new 700Mhz freqs.

They are going to reuse the 14 frequencies that were in the current system for P25 fire ems and PD agencies will move to this system, radios have gone in for reprogramming, the left over 10 channels will be for non public safety, new system will stay an 800mhz, and will be online sometime in june, per FD sources, old system will be used for back up ORION WILL NOT be used except for interop

They're only going to reuse 10 800mhz freqs and add 4 700mhz freqs because VA Beach couldn't get any new 800mhz licenses. You are correct about the ORION only being used for interop but the new system will share the same master site as the ORION making VA Beach's new system id 1EO.

System is not part of ORION

The new Virginia Beach system is not part of ORION. It does share some back end equipment with ORION but its control channels and talkgroups are independent of ORION.

If the SysID is the same, the Virginia Beach system will go on the same page as ORION in the database. It doesn't matter that control channels and talkgroups are independent - these will be added in their own sections on the page.

I just need to know the site number if anyone can monitor an active control channel.

Thanks,
Dave
