I just found out from an well informed inside source in VBFD administration that the department is planning on going digital starting early in 2011. They are also planning on reprogramming all of their radios to resolve some issues that have come up in recent months.

How Do We Get Prepared? For Digital?

See, Back in 2009 My mother gave me her digital scanner she does not use that much. i have now the Pro 96, but is the VBFD going to be changing frequencies? Also what mode will we need? I have ACPO 25 Digital Modes and whatever the Pro 96 has.

Orion Will Be Using 700 MHz Frequencies

I was reading the information that is important. This will make my Pro 96 obsolete and other radios. I have to get another radio soon that covers 700 MHz frequencies. The only thing that covers 700 MHz is my Pro 2035, but it does not have Project 25 decoding. It might be a time to upgrade. Unless I can reband my Pro 96 using software.

Virginia Beach (Project 25) Trunking System, Virginia Beach, Virginia - Scanner Frequencies These frequencies will soon reband down 15MHz but the Pro-96 can handle the system either way.

However, VB may go to this system instead. Overlay Regional InterOperability Network (ORION) Trunking System, Virginia Beach, Virginia - Scanner Frequencies See details below regarding Win96 software.

With Win96 software the 96 can listen to 764.0000MHz in FM mode but will not trunktrack 700 systems.

VA Beach Public Safety is going digital. The new P25 System should be online within the next few months. The city will have a whole new system and they'll be keeping the current analog system for NON public safety.

They won't be on the Orion they'll have a new system. I'm not sure how long it's going to take to get everything up and running but i know they will start working on the sites sometime December or January of this year.

Depends on if they use 700mhz freqs or not... If they don't then your Pro-96 will be perfectly fine on any other P25 system.

Ya that's def. true. I would have to agree with this statement.

The control channels for the new system will be voice channels from the current system. They will be downsizing the current system since public safety will no longer be using it. The new system will be on the ORION system with additional 700mhz channels added.
