I noticed the coverage areas for CMDs 2 & 8 were switched within the last week. I checked with a friend who continuously monitors VCF. Here’s his reply “ I know that last week they had each channel down for work at various times and then they started the switch”

Anyone know what went on?.

that would explain why that Beach rescue (stranded surfer?) was on CMD8 yesterday. I used to listen to it as it was for East County (and was for ‘Brush Incidents” before that).

The switch of Command 2 and 8 are permanent, Command 8 was interfering with a agency in the Los Angeles area.

I'm still confused. CMD 8 was & CMD 2 now is 155.985. The switch would only move transmit locations a little further from LA county. VNC transmitters are on mountain tops (i.e. South & Red Mtns). I don't see how possible interference to a LA area agency is eliminated.

What am I missing?

The frequencies didnt change, the locations they are assigned did. Command 8 is now the Ventura/South Coast/Ojai Valley Command and Command 2 is the East County Command.

Command 8 was simulcasted though out the county, this is no longer the case. It is only simulcasted on the transmitters in West County, no longer on any transmitters in East County (Rocketdyne for example) The VNC radio system is not a traditional repeater system, it is comprised of many Simulcast transmitters and receivers throughout the county.

yup
To state things another way - the freqs did not change - the channel names did not change (Command 2 and Command 8) - just the use of the channels changed - more specifically - just the areas where the channels are used has changed

So the new lineup is now -

Channel name - "Command 2"
Channel freqs - 154.325 R - PL 79.7 - (repeater input freq is 155.835)
Channel use - command in east county area

Channel name - "Command 8"
Channel freqs - 155.985 R - PL 186.2 - (repeater input freq is 154.725)
Channel use - command in west county area (Ventura / South Coast / Ojai Valley Command)

Right?

Right?

Like I said in the last post, the frequncies are not changing, only channel assignments in the West and East counties. Nothing needs to be updated, reprogrammed, or the database updated. Calls in East use CMND 2 Calls in West use CMND 8 Calls in Oxnard use CMND 5.

So there is no longer a Countywide Command? IIRC (and they’ve switched thier plans around so many times, I’ve lost track) CMD8 was originally “Brush Fires” - thus the countywide simulcast. Didn’t they used to have an “extra” Command channel too (CMD10?)
