Hello everyone. I have a SDS200 scanner and I am going to be moving to Vernon, CT in 2 to 3 months. Looking at the RR database I see that Vernon police are on Primary 453.8125 / P25e. PD secondary is 460.325 / P25E. So my understanding is that the secondary channel is full encryption because of the capital "E", I understand that. The primary channel is P25 "e" which by looking into the lower case "e" it means partial encryption ? So am I correct thinking that they can change that channel from unecrypted to encrypted when ever they want ? How much monitoring of the Vernon PD am I going to be able to listen to once I start living there ? Is the primary mostly unencrypted or mostly encrypted and I won't be able hear much from the PD ? Looks like I will have no problem listening to the Fire Dept, so I should be all set there. Thank you for your help

Welcome to Vernon! As mentioned, Vernon PD Ch1 is encryption selectable. I provide the Tolland County Public Safety / CSP Troop C feed which includes Vernon PD Ch1, plus fire on TN. My observations are that the number of encrypted communications varies day by day and situation to situation. For example, a few officers always transmit encrypted. Sometimes, PD Ch1 will go fully encrypted for a few days and then back to clear communications. It's at their discretion and likely aligns to the tactical posture of the moment. At the present time, most are clear communications but changes like New England weather.

For what it is worth, if one happens to listen to the feed above.... Vernon PD dispatch/HQ is referred to as "H" and they dispatch patrol units by badge# (200's to low 300's).
