• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Generic Vertex Instructions:
Hookup the programming cable and adapter to the computer and radio with the radio power OFF.
Open the CE115
Click the Read button on the screen
Wait for the prompt and immediately turn the radio on
A progress bar should appear
When done you'll get a prompt - click ok
SAVE THIS READ!
Turn off the radio
Edit this file. Save it under a different name.
Click the Write button on the screen
Wait for the prompt and immediately turn the radio on
A progress bar should appear
When done you'll get a prompt - click ok

The generic instructions tell you how to read and write to the radio. There are so many variables that I can not find how to program them. That is the problem. I can not find a manual that gives the instructions. I am tired of "try it and see what happens" and just want to find a programming guide. The help files are not much help either.

Okay??? There have never been those kind of instructions for any radios, that I'm aware of. This is a big reason that there are dealers and not retail/direct sales. There's general commercial radio knowledge and a STEEP learning curve in some cases. Not to be an @$$, but the built in help menu has a LOT of info. This software is a bit different than older versions with the Ch Info, but a lot of it is the same as other Vertex software. I've been doing some type of radio for over 3 decades and seem to always be learning stuff either from reading or interacting with forums or people. This site, repeater builder and batlabs are all good resource sites. If you have specific questions ask away and I or somebody else will try to answer. Your question might be one somebody else has.
What is your intended use for the radio (HAM, GMRS, work, scanner)?

It will be used for GMRS and public safety. I am a Search & Rescue dog handler and trainer as well as an Emergency Services Chaplain. I also have a Maxon Harris for P25 Phase 2. Of course that one is done at the local radio shop that handles the P25 system. This Vertex is a new one to me and I have never worked with this software before. Like you mentioned there is a steep learning curve sometimes. Right now I am working with three different radios with three different sets of software. I am also trying to update a Unication G4 pager on the P25 system and I can't remember how to do some things with it that I have done in the past as well. Then there is a Bearcat 536HP that I am trying to get going for my house. This early in the morning I do not have any particular questions yet and will be tied up all day today with air conditioning duct repairs and insulation. Thanks for your reply and when I come up with particular questions I will reply. Thanks again.

Sounds like a pain! Just tell them you need an all band APX8000 lol
Give a shout on this post or PM me if you get stuck. I've got the 4600 software in front of me and can probably help figure stuff out. The weirdest thing with Vertex is the spacebar is how you enable or disable a channel in a group. On some computers it can be a real pain to see what is dark (enabled) or light (disabled/not seen)
