We caught a accident on video and helped the PD out on who was at fault, anyway she said their new radios will have GPS and when the key up they know exactly where they are. That sounds nice. she didn't have a new radio on her, too bad I wanted to check it out.

I'll try to post the wreck we got on video.

Okla-lawman ... one of our local PD's recently enacted GPS on all patrol vehicles, and so far, none of the LEO's that threatened to quit if such a thing came along has quit yet. Would be nice if you get in a mayday situation and can't advise your location...

I talked to an Oklahoma city officer yesterday, and she said all their new radio's will have GPS, If you get shot or run over and can't speak then it is a good idea.

Perhaps GPS in the cars, but I am not aware of any M/A Comm GPS enabled handhled radio. Motorola makes a speaker mic that has a GPS in it for the XTS series radios (function works in APCO-25 only, I think). I think just that mic is like $350, but I suppose if it saves someone's live, then it's well worth it.

In the cars, I would imagine that the GPS will be on their laptops, not hooked into the mobile radios either. If you've noticed all the little white boxes with two antennas on almost every intersection's light post, that's OKC's new 802.11b wireless network. I don't think the officers are using it yet (haven't seen those antennas either) though.

Don't really know how the AP are fed data. From what I've read on the system, each of the mobiles will relay data to another mobile if they are out of range though. I don't see too many wires or anything going to those light posts!

I heard today that the officer will be able to take the laptop out of the car, and the laptop will still relay through the car to the system. Pretty nifty!

Actually, the first time that you have a citizen complaint filed on you stating
that you were in location X doing something you should not, and you can
prove by AVL that you were in location Z, you will learn to love the system.
