I have a pro-96 and when I turn the volume all the way down it still sounds like its turned half way up? I read another thread about this but didn't hear anything as to a fix. Is this a hardware issue or is it from the update I did?

Thank you all,

-Jay

Jay,

I updated my Pro-96 a while back and have not experienced this problem. However, you refer to the previous thread and when I read that thread I was wondering if the CPU version had something to do with it.

In that regard I will say that mine contains CPU F1.1 firmware and has been updated with the DPS-APP upgrade to 1.2. It does not manifest this volume problem. How about others who are, or are not, experiencing this problem post their versions to see if there is a connection.

The fix is to take it in for warranty service - you have a bad connection in the volume control.

rdale is correct. A lot of pro 96's are having problems with this. I also heard or seen on a thread here about 6 mos. ago that it is also associated with a problem of the way it is carried by the belt clip. If you use the belt clip a lot it does something to the pcb inside on the back. I guess the stress of the flexing of the plastic somehow makes it a problem. Also in this same area the scanner gets warm. Something also associated with this problem.

It's from turning the volume wheel by using your finger on the side of the knob, the twist when you turn can cause the connection to break. Need to come down with all fingers from the top - apparently you can only use the "quickie" with Bearcats.

It's more than that. I never work my volume that way and my 96 has the problem. My problem is I just can't live without it long enough to send it to RS for repair.

It took RS _8_ days to get it from the store to the service center... 5 miles away... once there they fixed it in 2 days (new volume / squelch assy and new case because my rubber dropped off) and 1 to ship it back. It was tough ;>

How long does the original store warranty last. I didn't buy anything extra when I bought the unit. Can I still get work done on it.

Great! Do the repairs have a warranty? Also, how do I send it back. Just take it back to the store, or do I call them up?

rdale, they gave you a whole new case just because the grip fell off?

Take it to any store with your receipt - but call them first, if you can take it to the service center direct (depends on where it is) you'll save the shipping time.

The entire back case is new from the PC-IF hole on back. The only thing still old is the battery cover & serial # ID. All I was missing was the small rubber next to the power jack and the big one on the other side.

I have the same prob with mine. Only problem is I don't have the reciept. I'm sure I'm in the computer though, and the item hasn't even been on the market for a year yet, so I don't think they'll give me a problem.
