Hello. I hope that this does not sound like a stupid question. I just purchased a pair of midland GMRS / FRS radios and it does not really tell me what VOX is used for. All that it tells me is how to turn on and off the VOX. Could someone please help tell me what the advantage or disadvantage of VOX is.

Thank you

It is to activate the transmitt by your voice so you don't have to press the transmitt button. If it is adjustable and you have it at the most sensitive, background noise may activate it when you don't want to be transmitting, if it is at it's least sensitive you may have to speak very loudly to activate it.

It's more or less for hands-free operation. (Such as if you were driving and needed to keep your hands on the steering wheel).
