VX-8 Programming Issues

I recently acquired a VX-8. When I was trying to program in some of the area HAM repeaters using the software, I ran into a problem. Two of the active repeaters around here have input CTCSS tones but no output tones, and others have different input and output tones. In the software, it seems I can only assign one tone to each channel, and I don't see a way to have different tones for input and output. Anyone have any ideas?

The VX-8R can be programmed through the free software program “Chirp” I believe. Have you given that software design a try? I haven’t ever programmed this flavor of Vertex, but I’ve done quite a few others. Is there a “DEC/ENC” anywhere on the screen near the frequency information?

I presume you're using the RT Systems programming software, correct?

No, I'm using the FTBVX8 software. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be any "decode" category. The only thing there is "Encoding Method", the options of which are OFF, TONE, TSQL, DCS, RV TN, PR FREQ, PAGER, MESSAGE, D CODE, T DCS and D TONE.

Take a look for split repeater programing vs. the commonly used direct offset. I don't recall details of how its done and I've seen it used if one of many repeaters in your memory is not using the standard offset. Last I looked Denton, TX has a repeater with a 1MHz offset. Anyway its possible you can set a tone for transmit different than receive.

P.S. I came across this in the manual after I posted the above. It might help? Reads like cross over between CTCSS & DCS, but maybe I just not comprehending it correctly.
