Hello All!
I just purchased a new laptop which has the new windows Vista installed.
My question is will my VX-7R software work with the new system? A friend told me that his software did load into the computer but he could NOT communicate to/from the radio because it(the software) was not configuered for a USB port just a serial port. Is this true and is there a fix for this? I dont want to go through the trouble of loading then uninstalling the whole thing. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Manny, in the likely event no one knows here, the VX-7R Yahoo group is the most likely place you will find information on this. It should be a pretty common question as more and more newer PCs don't have serial ports (grrr....) 73s Mike

I program my VX-7R using VX-7 Commander through a USB port. I use a Belden USB-to-serial adapter so I can plug the VX-7's cable in. The trick is to know what port number the USB device is using so you can tell your software.

OK Then!
I di not know that the USB used a com port. I always associated com ports with everything else but USB. I will try that.Thank you guys. I agree.no serial ports is a big GRRR...... I will report back if and when I find a solution.

Well I did it!
I got the software to work. Actually, the problem was the cable itself not the software. The computer did not see it. Reloaded the driver and Presto!
