    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

VXR-1000 Dead Key Transmitting

I am interfacing the Vertex VXR-1000 with the Bendix King Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater (RDPR) to be used as a link radio. The VXR-1000 seems to work fine while receiving. It receives radio traffic and sends the audio over to the RDPR to be rebroadcast through the repeater which is exactly what it is suppose to do.

The issue comes in when the VXR-1000 receives audio from the RDPR. The VXR-1000 will receive audio from RDPR and then start transmitting the received audio. After the received audio has dropped the VXR-1000 stops transmitting. The VXR-1000 will then remain idle or in standby for exactly 4 seconds before it starts transmitting a dead key and locks up. To stop this process the VXR-1000 must have the channel changed or powered off.

I have several VXR-1000 units and they all perform the exact same way. I can even completely disconnect the VXR-1000 from the RDPR and it continues to transmit a dead key. This occurs regardless of which channel the VXR-1000 is set on.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem or have any suggestions or ideas?

I don't believe it is a VOX issue. When I completely disconnect the radios from one another the VXR-1000 is still transmitting a dead key carrier.
