So I am using a W1010 for when I'm around town a W1010 and yet it keeps resetting and restarting all the time or turning off more and more, is there a problem with it or is this how Whistler operates? should I trust uniden brands over Whistler for my traveler scanner when I walk everywhere?

what could be wrong with the scanner? did it get jarred when I strap it to my personal shopping card?

and have you tried other batteries.
what usually happens to me is i grab a radio with mostly dead rechargeable batteries and it dies in a few minutes.
if i then turn it back on, it repeats once or twice and then is just dead.
i guess it can also happen with alkaline cells but might have more run times.
rechargeable cells do have a life and over it the true capacity goes down.
that is why about once a month i test them all and pair them up for a longer running time.
so, test and try other cells and then see what happens.
also does it do the same when plugged in ?

it might be time to consider rechargeable batteries.
and a good smart (not fast) charger.
sure i go through a set of batteries in a day, but i have extra ones that are charged.
OK till tomorrow !

Agree on rechargeable batteries. For under $60 you can get an Opus smart charger and 8 Amazon basic 2400's.

But I've had problems with that battery design before in older models. The springy contacts in the scanner sometimes get oxidized or bent back in.

so i used the supplied plug no problems, i changed the battery box device and it seems to be working properly again.
Examine the battery holder carefully. I bet it has a tiny crack in it. The crack will expand with batteries installed. I had this happen to me many years ago with a yellow holder.
