Hello All!
Here are some changes to the Wake County 800Mhz VIPER system that will be happening within the next month:
~Master Talkgroup list to be updated to reflect all the new talkgroups created for Raleigh Fire Dept and RDU Emergency Services.
~PS Tac 9-12 will be eliminated, but PS Tac 31-39 will be added.
~EMS Ops 5-8 are going away, but will be adding Fire Ops 9-12.
~Eliminating Event 3 and 4 - they will become hard patched TGs into the Harnett and Johnston County 911 centers via ACU1000 patch at NC SHP. This will allow users to call their Comm Centers directly - and can be used as a patch bridge between any of the three centers.
~Raleigh FD will have a few of their own TGs (Alert, Disp, and Battalion Adms), otherwise they will be using the Fire Ops and Tac Channels like all the other FDs in the County.
~RDU Airport is phasing out the Event Channels, and will be using PS Tac channels for all events at RDU that require off-site assistance.
~Raleigh FD will be using Locution Dispatch on 154.370 and all other VHF traffic will be elminated. EMS will be moving to new Locution frequency (156.225) within 45 days or so.
As my source says "We are truly evolving to a Wake County radio system designed for operations - not looks."
I will update the RR.com database with the new info as soon as I get it and will post updates here in the NC Forum as well.
Happy Monitoring!

Thanks for the info and heads up, Marshall.

I'm curious if Cary will ever switch over to the Wake Co. system. Figured they would have done so by now.

Of course the way Cary is, they'd end up being the only users that have encrypted comms. LOL.

Chris-
You are not too far off...Apparently Cary is standing firm against moving to the Wake Co system...they are "too good" to be part of the Wake County system I guess :D

Cary will be maintaining their own system, after careful thought and consideration. Plans are to upgrade the system to digital in the near future.

Has Raliegh put the locotuon(sp) system into service yet? I will be in the area this weekend, and would love to hear how it sounds

PJH-Yep...Locution is active on 154.190Mhz (Wake County Fire Dispatch) and 156.225Mhz (Wake County EMS Dispatch)....both have a 192.8Hz CTCSS/PL tone....if you run across any updates or corrections please submit them so I can keep the system info accurate!
Thanks and enjoy central NC!

It has been in place with Raleigh Fire for several months now... They have some key repeater positions with intense power being fired through those repeaters. I routinely pick up Wake county Fire in Onslow County (100 miles away) and it does not matter the time, day or night they come blasting though out here.... Not bad for VHF....

Raleigh Fire is new to the system but Wake County Fire has been dispatching on the system for several months now...the inital dispatch is also sent over 154.190Mhz with 192.8Hz PL/CTCSS....hope everything else is going ok on the coast of NC and cya on the pager! :)

The new VIPER system is nice. Although I don't live in the area anymore, I bring my PRO-96 with me when I'm in town visiting relatives so I can monitor for a couple of days. Things sure have changed since I started scanning back when I lived there, from 1982-1998.

Can someone elaborate on how this gets set up through the AC1000 at NCSHP?

I take it this is a linking of two neighboring EDACS systems to the Wake Motorola system.

My info suggests that Harnett and Johnston (as well as other counties in the same boat) will each have APCO 25 radios on site that will be contolled from the console level, much like a control station arrangement, but don't hold me to it. Since that's Troop C, I'm not privvy to whether these will be actually talking to the ACU1K rack and patched through the microwave, or whether they'll be direct access through a dedicated talkgroup.

Thanks for the clarification. It is not EDACS to Motorola patching.

I don't have any information on how Hickory City PD (EDACS) here plans to address the incompatibility issue.

Thas' right, there won't be any direct patching of differing formats as far as I know. Whether the APCO 25 will be direct routing via microwave or ACU bridging is anybody's guess, and I'd bet that aspect will all depend on location, site, and system specifics.

The communications device depicted above does have marketing potential.

No existing scanner can monitor it.

If anyone can photoshop a APCO 25 label on that, we can sell them on batlabs for lots of $$$$$

pboy....................

Do you have any scanner files set up for the Hickory area?
