Sorry for the confusion I meant to say the FRS radios off the shelf using channels 15 through 22 not the FRS business band those are GMRS and require a licensed and there were so many interference issues that stores in metro areas couldn't use any of the frequencies most store already had XTN VHF radios they just added the newer RDU and switched to MURS less congestion and interference. Wal*Mart.com actually offer for sale the very same radios they use in the stores. Also FRS devices have a maximum power of ½ watt (500 milliwatt) nowhere near enough power to effectively cover the inside of a 250,000 plus square foot store full of merchandise and fixtures that even further the effective range they discovered GMRS channels provided a full one watt but the batteries couldn't stand up to the heavy use.

They sell the cp radio they use? Out this way west everything they get from corporate motorola cp110s. I wasn't aware they sold the cp on wal mart.com. from what I know like I said ch 1 is csq. with rest using dpl.

Most stores in my area use MURS for all communication in the VHF band. Because they are low power (2 watts) and have only 5 channels, they can look like a FRS radio.

Depends where you go. Like I said murs is used mostly however some use frs or if the store is old enough to been around a few older radios with the itinerant freqs will be in use for security or management that the murs ones don't have. I've seen different stores use frs for carts outside uhf. Usually a manager inside has one on if they do. Most are murs however. I've seen employees break off the murs and carry frs bubble packs to avoid the management. I get a kick out of them or managers off work carrying the little murs rdu series with the cheap earpiece. I know a couple wal marts who use the 900mhz frequency hopping portables that are motorola. I know the wal mart here recently was approached by a company and shown mototrbo with privacy. From my understanding they liked it however cost and licensing a frequency was a issue. When the company said they could contract and run off one of the comm companies licenses it made smiles but when the cost of a mototrbo portable came out they choked said for now we will stick to what we got. Eventually down road in far future I can see digital being used either trbo or nxdn in some problem locations.

Someone should make a Walmart frequency database.
Give store # and frequencies used there.
Would make a cool little project to map all stores frequencies from across the state/country.

Just seems they go the cheap way out and yet the Walamrt distribution centers around here are going the digital route and seems to work well for them.
Was told some of the stores are using digital but dont see Walmart employees scanning or flipping frequencies when they need to talk to a manager. Target does it yes and it works well but not Walmart.
Guess what do they really say that needs to be in the dark anyways.
