I listened to the chase for a shooter around the 50th and Macarthur area yesterday which was very interesting. Even though they weren't immediately successful in capturing the shooter, they were all over the situation in a hurry. Bethany PD got involved pretty quickly and it appeared that they were monitoring each others freq's as they knew what each others dept's were doing and coordinated their searches accordingly. I didn't hear any involvement by OCPD with the exception of a helicopter (Warr Acres had asked for the copter) and was curious if they were aware of the situation or were involved. They seemed to be so close to getting this guy and appeared to be very thorough, going house to house and yard to yard, even checking in storm cellars in backyards. Did OCPD take part in this search at any point, and do they monitor the various PD's broadcasts like Bethany and Warr Acres appear to do with each other? Thses two PD's seem to help each other out quite often, as do their FD's. I have heard the FD's ask to cover each others districts when they get tied up on a fire. I think it's great to see the cooperation both departments give to their neighbors. Apparently the people living in this area look out for each other also, as Warr Acres was getting a bunch of calls from people who saw this guy going into neighbors yards, jumping over neighbors fences and other out of the ordinary behavior that this suspect was drawing attention to himself with. It's nice to see people actually looking out for each other in this day and age.

Rest assured that OCPD dispatch would have been notified by Warr Acres dispatch rather quickly. Especially being at 50th and Mac. A lot of officers monitor Warr Acres, Bethany, Village, Nichols Hills, and Edmond. Most of the time if assistance is needed, then they readily ask for it. Often though, you will get an officer that is close by and he/she "will be out with so and so department on their whatever call". It is quite routine. When Mardi Gras has huge brawls, Warr Acres will often respond as well with OCPD.

Smaller departments have the luxury of having their dispatchers be able to monitor other cities' traffic. Their own radio traffic is light enough to where they can listen to multiple frequencies/agencies. OCPD dispatchers are so overwhelmed with just their own radio traffic that they cannot listen to other agencies. There is a dispatcher just for Hefner, etc.

The two cities have a pre-arranged mutual aid agreement for pd and fire and use it very often. They kinda function as one department on the occasion when things get too busy or they get something big. The fire side of the agreement has Warr Acres and Bethany and then uses Yukon as a backup from there.
It is easy for them to coordiante on the radio because they are both in the UHF band and have both programmed into their radios. OCPD will be online with them once they establish the interlinks on the 800mhz system. OCPD generally doesn't know what is going on with the other agencies because we do not all have scanners and as mentioned above our dispatch doesn't either. The ones that do have the scanners generally let everyone else know and if WA or Beth want the help they have their dispatch call ours and ask. From the sounds of it they got the whole thing taken care of by themselves with the help of the "ghetto bird" since they just called to ask for that and not manpower.

There was only one point where OCPD would've potentially been involved. At one point, there was one report of the suspect getting into a silver Ford pickup. It was fairly obvious that the person getting into that vehicle was either not connected, or it was not a reliable report, so it was disregarded, and resources were kept where they were.

The call over in the 1900 block of Rockwell seemed to be reliable, since there were several calls, but that didn't turn up anything either.
