It was my bad I had a typo of the frequency in my last post, its 153.83. They still hold the license for 154.415 it was renewed:
ULS Application - Public Safety Pool, Conventional - 0001545123 - WATERBURY, CITY OF
-and-
ULS License - Public Safety Pool, Conventional License - KCB280 - WATERBURY, CITY OF

I think the problem why they can't not use 154.41.5 is because it is Med Comm for Suffolk county and also Bridgeport hold a license for the frequency but does not use it. Waterbury never gave up the license when they switched over to the multi-net system.

But if they used 154.415 as their primary dispatch freq in the past and have held onto the license for all these years I don't see why they would suddenly have to stop using that freq.

Regardless of why they're using it, they still can't just pull a new frequency out of their ass and make a repeater.

It is to close to Prospect's 154.4000.
It really don't see any problems with 154.3250, they can use that instead.
What about the PD, are they gonna to follow suit?

Fire has applied for three (3) conventional repeaters: 854.3125 MHz (East Main Street), 854.3375 MHz (Bunker Hill), and 854.3875 MHz (Highland Avenue). These may be to replace the present 821 MHz simplkex channels that they use now.

Interesting, but why would they want fireground ops on a repeater when ideally they would want to keep it on simplex. Maybe their planning on vacating the trunk system? I know there have been lots of complaints about reception especially far out on the eastside.

Regarding the repeater strength on 153.83 I don't think it is a full 50 watts or more. From in front of Northside firehouse and in front of Wal-Mart on Wolcott St. it was extremely scratchy. It is only clear in the downtown area which leads me to believe it is pretty low power.

It's simple, they can opt using a repeater channel for operations or they can use the same frequencies in a talk around fashion. Many departments like this feature as command can stay on the repeater using the bases power to transmit to the portables while operations operate in talk around / direct mode since they can't hit the repeater. This is just one tactical option out of many. The rumors about abandoning the trunk system also have been flying around for years but Waterbury will not be dropping off it anytime soon. May fire departments that operate 800 Mhz trunk systems also utilize conventional fire ground channels to get off the system in fear of not hitting the towers or worse yet, getting "bonked" when the system is busy. West Hartford, Hartford, Stamford, Greenwich, New Britain and I also believe Bristol have 800 MHz conventional channels for fire ground. (I have to check the D-base for it).

Niteowldj,
Waterbury HAS been on the EFJ trunked system with the others for many years, that is not news to most readers here. This thread was discussing the addition of a VHF radio that is transmitting Waterbury's FD traffic off the trunked system.
The trunked system uses 9 channels, the 10th frequency you listed is a conventional fireground channel.
Waterbury is in the process of reprogramming and updating the system due to the much discussed Nextel interference issues (rebanding). This will someday in the not too distant future result in the frequencies being dropped 15 MHz.

Thanx 4 info.

Thanks for the Info Chris. I did not realize the post's were so old. I just got started on this site a few days ago. I actually joined to seek out the availability of parts for an old Galaxy Melaka CB radio that I am in the middle of repairing, and came across the Scanner site. I collect the older CB Radios and 10 meter rigs.
I am retired from broadcasting (engineer & DJ) and now have time to pursue a few hobbies I have always never had the time for. Have a Great 2009 ! Cheers, Chuck.

Waterbury rebroadcast

I don't think the "vendor" set it up. I think someone in wtby FD is doing it on thier own.

The VHF Channel is a 5 watt mobile that is just simulcasting the 800. Same deal as Hartfords VHF simulcast of their 800. Its all audio feed from the 800. Their license is current, they can use it in the bandwidth allowed in the license. It's not illegal, and was not set up by just someone. Obviously reception depends on weather and location. Will they upgrade to higher power? Only buffs would hope. BUT I dbout it.

Hartford is only five watts? When I am up that way the power seems to be much more than that.

Also, since you seem to be in the know, could you shed some light on the future use of the new conventional repeaters.

Hartford VHF must be more than 5 watts. I get them loud and clear in Farmington almost 15 miles away. The trunked system, however, cannot be heard at all from that same location.
