It's funny how we can have weekly nets on 2m and 440 bands but during actual weather events everything is silent. Yesterday I couldn't find any weather nets active even though we had verified tornados on the ground. At least they were being tracked by Ducomm. Speaking of Ducomm....when their site went down briefly, I did not hear them on any of the 800mhz p25 channels listed as back up.

I'm not sure where you're located, but the Bolingbrook Amateur Radio Society (BARS) had a very active weather net last evening (147.330 Mhz. multi-cast with 443.525 Mhz.) with 22 check-ins and very professional net control operators. Both repeaters have a good footprint for many miles from Bolingbrook; The repeater is located in the vicinity of I-355 & I-55.

BARS has steadfastly been a great resource for ham radio and scanner enthusiasts to monitor during and before storms. There were stations all over DuPage, Will, & Cook County that checked in.

second on BARS.... I had them on one radio, K9XD repeater on another and DuComm on a third. All on portables from Lisle. No issue copying BARS or the K9XD repeater. BARS had lots of folks either out or reporting from home stations. They are a must when tough weather hits.
Fun to listen to Fire South say " this is the official announcement, StarCom is down, please turn your portables to VHF"

Surprisingly, PD's for ACDC and DU-COMM switched on to SmartConnect (LTE) and didn't get to use their 800 backup's throughout the duration of the outage. FD were the only ones on backup's with VHF unfortunately.
