UPDATE: WEST NANTMEAL — Ten people including the driver were in the car that overturned in a deadly crash that killed a 5-year-old boy Monday afternoon on the Turnpike, according to police.

The boy killed in the crash was not in a child seat, police said. The other passengers sustained moderate to no injuries as a result of the crash.

The vehicle involved, a 2000 Chrysler mini-van, was traveling westbound in the left lane along the Turnpike when it sustained a rear tire blow out, police said. The driver, Cynthia Eure, 20, of Philadelphia, lost control of the van and traveled into the right lane and onto the shoulder and flipped over, police said.

The 5-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. It appears that he was thrown from the vehicle upon impact, police said.

There were a total of six children and four adults in the car. In addition to Eure and the deceased child, in the car at the time of the accident were: a 22-year-old; two 25-year-olds; a 9-year-old; a 2-year-old; an 8-month-old; an 8-year-old; and a 3-year-old.

Police said only the 8-month-old child was using a car seat at the time, and the 2-year-old child was sitting on the lap of an adult in the van’s second row.

Police did not release the names of the children, nor did they say where the van was headed to at the time of the crash.
