On Wednesday Evening, the Union Fire Company No. 1, along with an Ambulance from Cecil County Station 8, was alerted for an Auto Accident on the Rt 1 Bypass at East Ridge Rd. in West Nottingham Township.
Initial reports stated unknown injuries, but just prior to Chief 21's arrival, supplemental information was received, stating a three vehicle accident, with one trapped.
With this, Medic 94 and additional BLS units were added to the assignment, as Chief 21 took "Route 1 Command" upon arrival.
Engine 21-3 arrived, followed by Rescue 21. Engine 21-3's crew began stabilization, while the Rescue's crew deployed the Hurst Tools.
Two helicopters were requested to transport patients, with a third helicopter added later.
Engine 21-1 arrived and established Landing Zones for the incoming helicopters.
Crews worked to free the driver of a box truck by flapping the roof, using the O Cutters and Sawzalls.
Once the driver of the truck was extricated, all patients were air lifted to the hospital.
Crews cleaned up equipment and washed down the road, with all 21 Units clear before 21:00 hours.
