Ok, talked me into it.

I get up to Wood County [Parkersburg] every summer or fall to visit with the XYL's relatives for a couple of weeks. Always bring a handheld scanner to keep tabs on the local activity while up there. Acquired a BC396T since my last visit so I'm getting anxious to try it out on my next trip in October. (That reminds me...I need to program up a system file for that.)

I enjoy the WV forum and check in on it a few times a week. You've got a good bunch of folks with a lot of info about their own local systems and are quick to share that info when someone poses a question. That quality seems to be missing in some of the other state forums.

I get to travel a lot for business and since I'm coming here, I get to tag the roll call. Visiting NETL in Morgantown for a few weeks and I'll have the trusty Pro-95 and forget about OpenSky and digital.

Regards, Mike

no, the BCT-8 is trunked but unfortunately it will not do digital P25, which the new system for Martinsburg and Berkeley County is. Jefferson County and the state police in the area are supposed to be going to it as well.

Ron in Hedgesville adding my 2% USD worth - New to the strange and mysterious world of digital trunking scanning, but I'm a quick study - due, in large part, to this forum. My first scanner in Massachussetts was a Tennelec 14-ch xtal piece of (ahem) equipment, MUCH later a RS Pro-2021, a sometimes-working Pro-51 handheld and now a Pro-2096. The state of the art definitely marches on. Thanks to all for the informative and helpful posts. I hope that I'll be able to pay back as time goes on. 73.

Hello all..

I am a Mining Engineer; residing in Morgantown since '99.

I am relatively new to scanning, although I have been listening on my beginners unit (Uniden bc248clt) for several years now. It has served its purpose, but I am looking to go mobile and the P25 system seems to be shaking out quite nicely.

I believe that the only agencies in my area that I listen to (LEO, EMS & Fire) patch the channel back to analog frequencies that I can pick up; so I will keep reading and weighing whether I should go with a digital/trunking capable unit or not. (I am open for suggestions from anyone in my area - I am thinking about just picking up a Pro97)

This is a great resource and community. I have a lot to learn, but it is nice to have individuals, on a board like this, that are more than willing to help. You guys (and gals) provides a great service to many people across the country and the camaraderie is second to none.

Thank you

welcome :)

you could just use an analog until you NEED a digital one and then get one. that way you'll have whatever is new at that time.

From Mineral County

Howdy y'all..........

Mike from Mineral County, Short Gap to be procise.....

Work in Allegany County, Cumberland MD at (get ready for this one).......the Allegany County Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security, 911 Joint Communications Center, Shift D Supervisor.....(trying saying that 3 times fast while on acid)......

Also, volunteer firefighter/EMT at Short Gap Volunteer Fire Company since 1993.....

Scanning all over the Tri-State area, normally fire/EMS/police from WV/MD/PA....

Normally at work between midnight and 8AM......so if anyone has any questions about here that I may be able to answer, just give me a buzz on Yahoo Messenger (huck911), and I would be happy to try to answer, if I ain't busy........

Not sure what scanner type I have right off the bat, but it is usually turned down due to the wife not liking to hear it all the time, along with my fire company pager (Minotor IV), and the fire company portable (Kenwood, but not sure of Model Number).....
