I received a notification email with the following text in the body. The information is contradictory. Will the broadcasts start on December 16th or December 19th?

An ARISS Slow Scan TV (SSTV) event is scheduled from the International Space Station (ISS) December 16-19, 2023, on 145.800 MHz FM to celebrate the 40th anniversary of amateur radio in human spaceflight.

The event is slated to begin on Tuesday, December 19 at 10:15 GMT for setup and operation and continue until Tuesday, December 19 ending at 18:00 GMT. These times are tentative and are subject to change due to crew availability.

I got good pics (finally!) during the last transmission. I'm hoping to get some good passes this time as well. Whoever gets a good decoded pic first should start a photo sharing thread for this event.

Perhaps just use this thread for this event.

If I pay attention on timing I'll see what I can do with the Elk Log Periodic as well as my Diamond discone to compare. I'll note the angle of the dangle as well for whatever passes I get, which is more for the discone.

I appreciate the heads up on this event. FWIW, the last educational contact (also on VHF) was heard as low as 8* per N2YO on a Whistler 1040 with a rubber duck. Good luck!!

I heard nothing on what should have been a good pass about 0618 local and checking the ARISS site the status for the radio says off. Next try about 40 minutes, previous pass went directly over Jacksonville FL.

The astronauts will operate during their down time and when they have nothing else to do. They most likely will not operate 24 hours straight. This is a scheduled event for them but may be cancelled if something mission specific comes up with a higher propriety.

@ka3aaa - The SSTV event is planned. It is not something they do on their down time with nothing else to do. Also, are you joking about the ISS not transmitting the SSTV event 24/7? Radio problems, EVA’s, or if it will interfere with a task would have the event suspended or ended early.

One of my scanners have the freq. and I have not heard a thing. I have not always been inside to listen though.

I got a very good pass Saturday at roughly 19:30 UTC and picked up nothing at all, so it's clear they weren't broadcasting at the time. Since then, I've just had my handheld connected to a digital recorder in my car, as no reception in my apartment, but perfect marine band reception in the parking garage and on the road. I've been swapping batteries twice a day. Sometime tomorrow night or Wednesday, I'll copy the *.WAV files onto my PC and take a look. I'll be able to tell from the spectrograms whether there were any possible broadcasts. I do have a bad feeling about this, though. I'll check in when I've gone over everything.

I got nothing but a lot of static. For disclosure, I missed something like 6-8 hours because I didn't change batteries soon enough, but I didn't miss anything, as they weren't broadcasting. From the Arris page:

**UPDATE - Dec 19**

Still nothing heard (thanks for all the reception report postings) and the event is scheduled to conclude about 18:00 UTC today. Hopefully they can resolve the issue and we can try again soon.
