I always thought it was meant for the screw size or something along those lines. The only thing I have it shown on as a sticker is a Kenwood commercial radio.

Ive attached a pic to give you an idea.

Its the Size of the machine screw that fits the hole.

4mm x 10mm (max length)

Learn something new every day . Seem's odd for it (warning) to be there . I guess some people might try & put a long screw in far enough to damage something .

What some people will try is amazing. If it was not on there you would see people trying to put in a 8" long piece of all tread and wonder why it now smokes when they turn it on.

I believe if you use a machine thread screw at 4mm it should thread right in.

I might be the reason for those warnings ;^)

I had an HT once that had a belt clip. I needed to take the belt clip off for some now forgotten reason, and I put the belt clip mounting screws back in the rig w/o the clip. Well... the idiots that designed the HT made the belt clip mounting holes go all the way thru the case back (such that I couldn't leave them out, or water and dirt would get inside the rig), and that little bit of missing thickness was all it took to crush a component on the PCB below one of the holes (rendering the HT dead).

Every time I see one of those little stickers now, I curse that HT and chuckle...

You're not the 1st to do that :D I've never done that, but I learned from a friend who let the magic smoke out of his VX5R because of the same reason you did, and that taught be a good lesson....
