What receiver would I need to monitor police around Post Falls? Thank you.

At this time the data base still has some UHF conventional frequencies listed for that area but it also says "Post Falls PD is moving to ICAWIN 700 MHz."

It's showing the Talk groups for Post Falls to be encrypted on that system on the database here, there is no scanner that will receive encrypted talk groups. Hopefully someone in your area will chime and and advise whether you can still hear anything on the conventional frequencies and if they're still in use at all.

According to the database, Post Falls PD is moving to ICAWIN 700 MHz and the Post Falls Police are all encrypted (DE), so no scanner will monitor them. Also the county SO has a lot of encrypted listed. It is unlikely you will hear much of anything other than Fire and EMS. For Fire and EMS you would need a Phase 1 P25 trunking scanner.

EDIT - Sorry @K9KLC typing as you posted.

No reason to apologize, you provided links which I did not.

A Quick Look at that site shows Simulcast, so guess we're down to SDS series scanners.

I knew that police had moved to 700 Mhz
but in general terms I know that there are scanners that receive 700 Mhz.

I thought maybe I could receive that way or maybe by using a SDS module that connects to a computer?

Thank you.

There are scanners that easily receive 700 MHz. There are however no commercially available scanners that receive encryption. According to the RR database, Post Falls is encrypted.

Most modern P25 scanners pickup 700 MHz band, that is not unusual.

I believe you mean a SDR (Software Defined Radio) dongle which is connected to the computer with software to decode the signal. But, as @K9KLC and the database said, they are showing as encrypted and scanners and SDRs will not decode encryption and even if it would it is illegal to decrypt and monitor encrypted traffic.

Can confirm that Post Falls is on ICAWIN and is 100% encrypted. Fire for the county is not encrypted along with Tribal Police and a few businesses that are allowed on ICAWIN. SDS scanners work fine. I prefer a Unication myself.
