At this time I only have a Realistic Pro-38,which is fine for listening to local ham radio repeaters.

What would I need to listen to Trent Hills,ON emergency services?

Are they encrypted?

In which case I may as well not bother upgrading!

Recommended outside antenna? Discone,other?

Local frequencies,please?

A digital trunktracker will allow you to hear OPP, Fire and EMS.

No Emergency Services are encrypted. A discone would be fine.

A link to Northumberland County is here: Northumberland County, Ontario (ON) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Please don't. All that does is create another identical thread which is known as cross-posting and is against the rules.

Instead, the new member needs to Report his first post by clicking on the triangle with the exclamation mark inside of it and ask a Moderator to move it.

I told him the best way to get good info. Isn't it your job to explain the intricacies of the forums?
