Hi, I’m from Waterloo Region Ont. I was wondering what scanner you’d recommend to listen to the fire depts. And if you’d need one compatible with Simulcast or not.

I highly recommend the SDS100/150 or SDS200 (mobile). We know they are expensive compared to other units but they work great on Waterloo Region (P25 P2), Metrolinx (P2 P2), LMRN, RCMP, Regular rail and aircraft. I am using a SDS200 along with a SDR dongle on Waterloo Region.
Another reason to choose a SDS scanner is that there are a lot of members here who can assist on programming and configuring your unit for optimal performance.
I must point out that most LE (WRPD, RCMP, OPP) is encrypted but the Fire is not. Metrolinx is not, some LMRN is not.

At this point, you definitely need one that's good with simulcast. So SDS series.
