Hi all,

I am just outside of Oakland County's closest tower site to my location so I have real trouble listening to the Fire traffic using the Oakland Simulcast sites. I noticed that the Oakland simulcast has several "site neighbors" such as the Wayne County simulcast site. When I switch to Wayne simulcast, I never hear any traffic from the Oakland county system. I am familiar with doing this as I use the Washtenaw County simulcast site to listen to Livingston County traffic since the Washtenaw site is a neighbor and carries all the Livingston County traffic on their site. I was hoping the Wayne County simulcast site did the same with Oakland County but it doesn't seem to be the case. Anyone know what site(s) will pass through all the Oakland County traffic in the same way? Maybe none of them do since it would put quite a load on the system sites but thought I'd ask around here.

Where are you? OR. What is the distance in miles between you and the closest Oakland Co site? The only Oakland traffic audible on other sites would be whatever Oakland channels are affiliated or being monitored outside Oakland.

I’m not hearing much Oakland traffic on Macomb, Detroit or Wayne Co.

I’m in Ferndale.

I am between Plymouth and Livonia and do not have an outside antenna so It's been a rough copy on the Oakland site closest to me. May have to get myself an external antenna in the spring.

This may work for you. It may not.
Instead of trying to hear them on a simulcast site like Oakland or Wayne, see what you can get off the nearest MSP tower. I get everything I want to hear from Monroe County just fine off MSP's Flat Rock tower.

RSPdx from SDRplay combined with the SDRtrunk software on a mini-pc and just an inside antenna.

This may work for you. It may not.
Instead of trying to hear them on a simulcast site like Oakland or Wayne, see what you can get off the nearest MSP tower. I get everything I want to hear from Monroe County just fine off MSP's Flat Rock tower.

The closest tower like that to me is Northville and I can't really receive it with my setup. The best signal I get is one of the Wayne County Simulcast towers and it's not even close to any other one.

Now I live in Warren I do get Oakland Co Traffic on the Macomb Towers .
Now I only have the Bordering Cities to Macomb like Madisin Hgts Rochester ect .

Understood. Right now I’m seeing DPD Track 3 on Macomb and DPD Track 6 on Oakland Co. That does not mean they’re available that way all the time. I’m also seeing Warren Police dispatch on the Detroit simulcast. And most of the time I can hear Washtenaw dispatch on the Wayne Co simulcast. And St Clair Co is audible on the Macomb simulcast. Generally on any given site you should be able to hear comms from neighboring sites. Unless the system is not permitting it for some reason.

Keep in mind that county level subscriber radios are programmed stay on their home county sites, unless there is a notable degradation of service.

Either way, traffic will not be carried on a given site, unless a subscriber radio is affiliated to that site, with that TG as the primary. (Pagegroups are a different matter, and why they have lost popularity, now that tones over P25 works.)

Yes, you will hear comms from the neighboring sites. With my experience throughout the state those comms will just mostly be the main dispatch (police, fire & EMS) channels.

Probably because someone on a neighboring site has affiliated to monitor dispatch

Thanks for the insight. I was able to get things semi-working with a temporary outside antenna on a mag-mount for now until the weather breaks. I'm hearing quite a bit now on the Oakland site.

I’ve picked up others Counties on Macomb Towers .
Iam assuming it’s do to a Radio from that area is in ear Shot of the Macomb Towers Iam assuming.
They do go into Roam Mode when out of their Home area correct ?

Simple example: someone with a Wayne Co radio takes it to their home in Macomb. While the radio is on, that channel will likely show iup on Macomb.
