I'm looking to buy a scanner to pick up the ky state police mostly. I am wanting to buy a portable one. My questions are I live in rural Southern Ky. close to post 15. 30 minutes away. Will i be able to pick up pretty good with a portable across other parts of the state. Any help will be appreciated. Also if I decide to go with the home scanner which would be the best for that and what about an antenna for that also. Thanks

KSP is P25 Digital.

To recieve them, you're going to have to spend about $500.00 for a digital scanner.

The best of the best, is the RadioShack Pro-96, or Pro-2096. However, GRE is about to debit the PSR-500 and PSR-600. These are the newest digital scanners.

Uniden also has the 996 and the handheld 396T. These are also great scanners, but do not perform like the Pro-96 and 2096 does.

I don't know where Post 15 is, nor do i want to look it up.
However, 30 miles North of Louisville KSP comes in weak or not at all most of the time on my Uniden BCD396.

I hear "digital noise" on my pro2055 often when looking for new frequncies.

It's all UHF, stock does fine for me in all around reception. You could get an antenna cut for UHF for better reception. But in the Louisville area I never see or hear KSP or Vehicle Enforcement, Metro handles and dispatches accidents and incidents when I'm passing through. So I would go with a digital scanner, Metro will be digital in a year, or it could be five years.

What part of Southern Indiana are you located?

Oops, does say that, need to read better and pay attention. But a digital scanner is what you need.

I can hear 3-4 counties easily on the KSP frequencies on my Pro-96 in Louisville. Unless you are down deep in a valley I would think you would be ok.

Good luck.
