I'm in Lafayette and for the first time last night heard the Troop G talkgroup on my local site.

Q: Who/What determines what Troops are re-transmitted at my local site (Abbeville).

Affiliations determine that. On the LSP system any trooper can tune any troop hence you can hear any troop dispatch on any site in the state as long as an active device is tuned to the TG. Your scanner is a passive device, a real radio is an active device.

Im in Troop F and I as well have heard Troop G on ID SRCH Mode, ive heard another troop dispatch but it was the first time i used the scanner and it was the first time I tried to track a TRS, so i didnt make note. Ive programmed all the troop's dispatch id's in one bank, and after 2 months; the only other troops beside my own was Troop G and that troop that i first came upon the day I got the scanner. My question is why is Troop G the only other troop I pick up?

Have you looked at the LSP map of the districts?

Perhaps only because a Troop G unit was operating near the district line, and thus got picked up on a Troop F district tower, and thus was active on the Troop F district (Zone) of the Smartzone.

makes alot of since. however what makes the towers particluar to a certian troop? how are they seperated from other troops, cause the state dotd and louisiana wildlife and fisheries' districts are not the same as the troop boundries

The towers have nothing to do with the Troops. Just as some towers are close to the Baton Rouge area they will pick up mostly Troop A, New Orleans, Troop B, etc. There is no reason if a Trooper in Shreveport wants to talk to a specific Trooper in New Orleans, that the Trooper in Shreveport will call on Troop B Disptach and all of a sudden you will hear Troop B in Sherveport. I will repeat, towers are not assigned in the LA State TRS. See My last post to this thread. It has to do with affiliations only.

When you heard Troop G in Lafayette, it was because Troop I was dispatching for Troop G. If you listen to them talk, the troop G units were calling Troop I, and they were operating on I-Dispatch 2 - patched with Troop G-Dispatch 1. They do this sometimes when they are short dispatchers, this may have been the case.

What the above posts were saying about affiliations is true, but when you heard troop G, it was because of a patch.

I was listening too.

Hope this helps.
