Bearcat Four-Six

My mom bought me the scanner for xmas and my girlfriend (now wife of 26 years) bought the crystals for it. Got it used from Glenn at Scanners Unlimited back in 1982 for $125, crystals were $6 each.

My first scanner was a vintage Regency 4 channel crystal controlled scanner, purchased in 1972. Before that I had a Heathkit tunable (Non- scanner) police monitor.

My first scanner was a Realistic Pro-20A 4 crystal scanner bought in 1984. It still works, but it's awful hard to find the crystals I need now!

Man you talk about a reality check. I remember the first scanner as well as the first girl that let me...... well not the first time to......but the first time to........... ahhh I digress :D It was back in the 70's and it was a 4 channel UHF/VHF Midland crystal controlled scanner. Tried my best, but couldn't find a picture of one. It was actually a very good scanner. Listened to my first vice/narcotics bust on that scanner too. That also was the start of my buy - use - sell - buy the next best thing in scanners too. I can count on one hand the number of days since the 70's that I haven't been with-in earshot of a scanner.

Mine was not even a "scanner" per se, but a tunable Realistic Patrolman-6 from Radio Shack. It was 1973 and it took all of my paper route money to buy it. My life long fascination with monitoring police, fire & air started with that first radio. I use a picture of that exact model for my avatar. Ah.....to be a kid again ;-)

My first was a BC60XLT, i got it back in '96 or '97. Still works great to this day (Had to solder the antenna connector many times though)

My first TRUE SCANNER was a four channel Midland VHF Hi crystal controlled hand held. Western Auto put them on sale for $20 by accident. I got the last one. Still have it and it still works.

My very first scanner was a Regency ACT-10-L/H/U, that was crystal controlled. However, my first radio capable of receiving fire and police calls was a Rhapsody multi-band receiver. That radio covered 30-50 MHz, 88-108 MHz, 108-174 MHz, 450-470 MHz, and served me for many years.

Hey Ron,
Same Regency first scanner for me too. I still have it and I think it still works. That was a lot of years ago.

Ron we used those in our patrol cars for years. To this day I think they were the best sounding scanners ever built. Before I retired I saw one sitting on the shelf in the Dicks room that hadn't been used for some time. Boy that brings back memories.....
