This may or may not be the correct forum, but I was wondering about something.Where in the Web enabled downloads would you find what I term missing or hidden entities frequencies-?? I've posted this particular question in several of my replys to different forum & threads answers in the past few days.
Specifically I am curious as to why when I open my computer aided software program for my Radio Shack Pro-135 scanner to Radioreference.com there are NO listings for either Premium Standard Farms or Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone Co in Green City,Sullivan Co.,Mo.even though they are listed in the FCC reports available to Premium subscribers and I have hear radio traffic on their assigned FCC frequencies. Also neither is listed in the downloadable CSV file.

If no one has bothered to submit frequencies or systems to the Radioreference database, then they will not show in the reports nor will they be downloadable.
You must be searching for a frequency through the FCC search function available on the website which pulls data from the FCC database, which is external to radioreference.

The only time that farms and phone companies are active is usually during planting and harvesting season and when there has been storms doing damage to the lines. Not very active frequencies to monitor:) Put the frequencies from the FCC database manually into the scanner and see what you might hear. A better antenna could improve your monitoring pleasure. The radio shack magmount, etc.. Anything will be an improvement from the supplied rubber duck.

Thanks for the heads up Larry.
Unfortunately I don't see any way of attaching an external antenna to this particular Radio Shack model radio without my apartment landlords permission to put one outside even though you can attach one to the radio using RG-8 Low Loss cable.I have determined that the frequency listed for Premium Standard Farms in the FCC listings is in fact what is now know as Farmland Foods. It is for the processing plant operation in Milan,Mo.
My main intent in purchasing this radio was to monitor weather & Public Safety frequencies such as Fire,Police,Ambulance & AirEvac chopper transmissions.
Have several of the local fire & associated service frequencies in my radio as I had the Radio Shack associate program in the neighboring county which is Adair where there was unfortunately loss of human life due to a tornado or tornadoes last week as well as the home county here which was also impacted by the same storm with the same result.I have changed some of that around experimenting with my software program.Haven't ran across the frequency for the AirEvac chopper yet,but I'm 90% sure there should be one as it's based in Kirksville.I have ran across the Ham operators in that area as that frequency is still in my radio even with ALL my experimenting.
My biggest quandry right now is deciding on how to set up my radio,i.e.Local Fire Depts in one bank of 20 channels, police in a different bank,911 in another or just to start with the lowest frequency in Bank 0 which is the lowest numbered bank in the radio and then go on up from there as far as I can.

Sorry about the tornado losses. Hope the future is safe for you.

Although everyone has a different way that they want their scanner set up, there are a couple of popular approaches that many people find useful. It depends on what you may want to be able to turn on and off at a particular time. You can divide the banks of a banked scanner into either separate geographic areas or different services.

For example, you could put everything for one county in bank one and everything for the next county in bank two. This would let you listen to just one county if that was what you wanted to do.

Or you could put all police in bank one, all fire in bank two and all ems in bank three. This would let you listen to just police or just ems if that was what you wanted to do.

Of course, if you have enough banks, you could put county 1 police in bank 1, county 1 fire in bank 2, county 1 ems in bank 3, county 2 police in bank 4, county 2 fire in bank 5, etc.

It's all about how you will want to be able to control what you listen to.

The radio shack magmount antenna is a good start. If you have a refrigerator, metal file cabinet, pie tin. Anything that the magnet will hold to, will work as the ground plane. No need to ask the apartment manager for permission for an outside antenna. You live in a fairly flat area which allows signals to be heard more readily. Another thing about the farm--they will most likely be using low power handhelds to communicate. The fact that you will be using an external antenna will greatly improve the reception of signals. What rvictor has said is pretty good advice. My main scanner has my county FD in one scanlist, neighboring counties in other separate scanlists (these include FD and SO, or, PD). I have other scanlists set up for other venues that I monitor. I would set up the scanner with PD in one bank, FD in another, EMS and AifEvac in another. Makes scanning easier to follow.
