As I understand it the new GRE PSR-500 will start being sold next week sometime. I am wondering can you only get this from online retailers like scanners unlimited or does anyone know of any actual stores where you can go to buy it at?

I just pre-ordered one from Scanners Unlimited. Glenn is a great guy to deal with! He expects to have his first shipment in on Thursday October 18th. At the time I ordered mine, he had two left that were not spoken for.

Scanner Master was a little late jumping on the bandwagon, weren't they? This is the first I've seen of them offering the GRE models.

Maybe late, but probably not last. Scanner World doesn't list any of the GRE models yet.

has it always said "out of stock" since it isn't out yet, or is it really out of stock. anyone know?

It's out of stock, because it's never been in stock. It might be the way their website is set up to administer, it might simple to hit out of stock, as opposed to something like Available date xx/xx/07

An interesting question for a linguist... does "out of stock" necessarily imply that it was once "in stock"?

A friend of mine is a linguist... so I asked her this question. With her permission, here is her reply:
To me "out of stock" implies that there's room on a shelf in a warehouse for it but the space is currently empty, whether it's been filled ever or not. Of course "coming soon" would be FAR better. But I'm sure they have a program that just puts up an "out of stock" message when it realizes there aren't any to ship.
Makes sense to me! :)

I spoke to a man at Scanner Master on Monday and asked and he said they expect shipment by the end of October for the PSR-500.

My order from Grove said it was "backordered" which I found interesting.

But the first shipment is due to arrive Friday the 19th in the morning. Grove will try and get some of the orders shipped out Friday afternoon.

This may be due that they decided to carry them after many of the other dealers. So they might not get the exact first wave of shipments.
