• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have the vhf f5021 and the uhf version of the same. I would like to upgrade to the digital version. I emailed ICOM but I figure they are not in the office since no response for a week. Does anyone know which vhf radio would be the digital version of the f5021?

I think the p25 not sure that the idas is. I want to throw a couple digital vhf ham freq in it, if that gives you a better idea.

IDAS = NXDN. Kenwood refers to it as NexEdge in some applications.

While there are certainly some NXDN and P25 amateur repeaters, you'll likely find a lot more DMR repeaters. If amateur is your intended application, you -might- be better off with a DMR capable radio. Check the repeater guides for your region and see what's popular around you.

Not sure if Icom is making any commercial DMR gear. You'd probably want to look at Kenwood, Motorola, etc. if you want commercial grade stuff that will still do MDC-1200.

Thank you, that is it. DMR. Goes to show what I know. I thought digital was digital. I'll look into a kenwood or rola.

Icom for some reason doesn't want to jump on the DMR bandwagon.. maybe eventually they'll get the hint. Also, look at the Tait line, now sold thru L3Harris. They make some reasonably priced DMR portables

The digital version of the tried-and-true F5121 is the F5121D, but it only does 6.25 IDAS without trunking. To do both 6.25 IDAS and 12kHz NexEdge you need to go up to the F5360D or F5400.

For P25 you jump way up to the F7510 or F9511.

All of the above also do plain old stupid analog, and can be 'convinced' to use 25kHz channel masks.

Icom Land Mobile is steering clear of the cheap import dominated and unprofitable DMR market for the time being. Icom Amateur mobiles only support D-Star.
