I am just wondering which software people use to update the database on SDS100 & SDS200?

I use Sentinel for original Favorite List and to update database.

I use ProScan mostly to control my SDS200 and act as web server for it.

I only use Sentinel to tweak settings (Display, etc) on my Unidens & for firmware updates (none of any substance in quite a long time so no bother). For everything else there's Proscan

I only use Sentinel for firmware and profile settings but Uniden rarely releases firmware and I really don't do much with the profile settings since they are set to my liking. I use @ProScan for everything else. Used it last night to mirror all the analog from my 436/200 to my 330T.

Correct. So I don’t see the need for a poll. Or am I missing something?
@KevinC - you are not missing something - I was!
Sorry - I thought you could import it all from ProScan - but maybe you can only import systems you select to ProScan (from RR Database)

ProScan can import from the Sentinel Database. Sentinel is needed to update the Sentinel (HPDB) database from the Uniden server.

So I can import what systems I want with just ProScan?
(I have not tried it but I know ProScan has Import from RR - I am just not sure of the limitations
(As in can it import the whole RR Database)

Yes. One system at a time imported into the Favorites Lists Editor. Only limitation I'm aware of is the scanner 1 MB per favorites lists so the whole DB can't be imported. If you want to use the whole database then set the scanner scan selection to full database. If using the full database then ProScan has a utility "Modify Uniden (HPDB) Database" that can be used for modifying the full database files in the scanner or computer.

I ask for information on both ProScan and Sentinel.
And I tagged it - so not sure why it whould be called an Ad

Since you're asking for information.

Q: Do I need to use Sentinel or the ProScan Favorites Editor for programming for the BCDx36HP and SDSx00 series scanners?
A: Sentinel is needed for firmware updates. It's also needed for accessing the full HPDB (Uniden DB) (updated weekly for free) which is derived from the RRDB (Radio Reference DB). If you're a Premium Radio Reference Subscriber, you can import directly from the RRDB in real time. Sentinel is needed for Profile editing. ProScan doesn't have a profile editor as it would be 100% duplication that couldn't be improved on.

ProScan has extra capabilities that I don't believe Sentinel has such as:
  • Multiple Favorites on the same tree which makes it easy to Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop systems
  • Find Duplicates utility
  • Find & Replace utility
  • Update Text Tags utility
  • Import directly from RRDB. RadioReference subscription required
  • Import from the Win Clipboard or from a RR web page. No RadioReference subscription required
  • Versatile Sorting options
  • Google Maps showing all the systems with circles or rectangles
  • Export nicely formatted web page showing any or all (user selectable) FQK's, SQK's, Number Tags, and systems
  • Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop nodes to other systems and other ProScan instances
  • SDS200 FTP Read & Write using the Ethernet connection
  • View the differences between ProScan and the Scanner favorites when writing and reading to and from the scanner
  • Modify Uniden (HPDB) Database utility
  • Change the system type in one step
