WS1010: Whistler 1010 and Los Angeles Sheriff

Hello folks, I recently bought a Whistler 1010 for a nephew of mine who is only interested in the local Sheriff which is analog and Not LAPD which is P25.
I copied the frequencies and names and pasted them into the PSREdit 100 program and pushed the file list to the scanner. The problem is, the transmissions are all choppy, hit and miss, with alot of static, beeps and hisses. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong? Here is an example:

and in the pc program, I have

CH Frequency DLY L/O. Sq Mode. Sq tone. Description


The Sq Mode I have set to CT/DC since I get slightly better results and there is no CSQ option, and the Sq Tone is set to SRCH

Am I doing something wrong?

Make sure you have PRIority off. This can be active on any channel and causes the radio to constantly interrupt what you're hearing to check on a channel with priority on.

Thank You for the reply. I have pretty bad reception with the stock antenna, maybe it's just my area but I notice my TRX1 picks up much more constant and clearly.
