Just for kicks, I was thinking of picking up a used Whistler 1080 someone is selling for cheap.
Will it work on the CLMRN?

lol…but overall, were you happy with it besides the simulcast issue?
I have little say in the matter as I've only monitored CLMRN once at a rest stop on the way to Massachusetts. My SDS100 worked fine on it for the hour or so I spent on it. I have no dog in the fight with a WS1080 though. Anyway, carry on locals :ROFLMAO:

I don't own an SDS but its my understanding that they are designed to tolerate the CQPSK modulation of the system better than former models

The sds100 is great on the CLMRN. Never had a single issue with that. This purchase would be just for curiosity. I got the seller to give it to me for $80. He is local here in CT. It’s in great shape. The seller says it was given to him but he has no idea how to use it, so he never used it. I’m jumping on it at that price.😎

I can remember spending some time on the Connecticut forum on the extensive thread regarding this system while lt was in a period of flux in an attempt to help a friend who asked me to tutor them so I got fairly familiar with the system for a few months but.. regarding the radio itself.. the 1080 is the PSR 800 made by GRE with maybe a few subtle differences.. the PSR 800 wals introduced in 2011 by GRE and the 1080 was introduced in 2014 as one of the first models sold by Whistler, it was also rebranded for Radio Shack.

It worked great on type Il smart Zone systems but on simulcast systems it never worked for me. Not a lick..

The locals know best about that. If the radio has low mileage and it's a hundred bucks then it can be a fun toy, when the PSR 800 was introduced by GRE the controls were unpopular, sort of like a apple iPod, I found them very clumsy, impossible to do in a car or without a lot of concentration and steps that needed to be taken, you'll get used to it very quickly.

The very second that the PSR 800 was introduced the calls for a keyboard were many. Couldn't figure out why they just didn't put a keyboard on it which Whistler did on the 1088. There were a few technicians that carried over from GRE, one of them Don Starr worked with Whistler. He's more of a software guy but I think he had something to do with the hardware change to a keyboard.

100 bucks is about all I would pay but again low mileage, have fun with it, depending on your location and what you are specifically listening to on your system maybe it'll work for you.

Small compact size, good audio and nice display.

Thanks for the input Bob!
This is a for fun/curiosity thing more than anything else. I do not do much in the way of mobile scanning using a scanner. I have a Motorola APX8000XE quad band. That is my main go to portable radio. This seller wanted $125 and I made an offer of $80 which he accepted. He is local here in CT. At that price, I feel comfortable getting it.
