Quick question; can anyone tell me if the 325 P2 works well with the state system? I don’t really need all the features on the SDS 100. I’m considering getting the 325p2. I’d love to hear from any of you that are using this scanner to monitor the state system..

Short answer; yes
However, as has been discussed here ad nauseam, in overlap and fringe areas, it is subject to simulcast distortion.

Thanks. I don’t usually look at many of the posts on here unless it’s pertaining to something that I have particular interest in.. I don’t like the idea of trolling…
Thank you very much for the heads up👍

Manny,

My 325P2 receives the CLMRN system fantastic,

Just read about possible Simulcast Distortion, which is location-dependent.

It receives as well as my SDS200.

Try it out!
Thanks, Doc!
Funny you mention the SDS 200. I have two of them racked in my monitoring room. I love the digital reception I get with them. I used to have the SDS 100 but I sold it. I really like the idea of just being able to swap out AA batteries on the 325..
I would most likely be using it within southern Fairfield County and southern New Haven county. I’m not sure what if any simulcast issues there are in this area.

I think I’ll give it a try though..

Manny,

My personal results, while not with the 325, was with a non simulcast scanner, (BCD436), driving side by side with a SDS 100, from Somers to Ellington through Rockville and then down to Willimantic out Route 6 to Connecticut. The 436 (which is a fantastic receiver, BTW) missed about 1/4 of the stuff the SDS did. And sometimes the 436 would catch onto a TG after the SDS was already audible. In a few spots, both would be locked on, but the 436 would be digital garbage where the SDS was not. Only scanning CLMRN H, C, K and D simulcasts that covers the route I was on.

YMMV, but that was my personal experience with the two in a side by side mobile environment.

I used the 352 P2 for a while (3-4 years) on the state system while out in my truck. My locations were from about meriden down rt 15 and I91 down to around Milford. I was almost always mobile. Rarely was I sitting listening in one spot. It worked “ok” I got the majority of what I was listening to. I could tell I missed some of it though.
I picked up a SDS100 just over a year ago. Took some figuring out. And still fine tuning it. But it does work better.

I appreciate your in depth reply. Helps me make an informed decision. I monitor A,I,G and F along my travels. The SDS100 was a bit much for traveling.
When I’m home, I have all the time I need to enjoy my SDS200 features. Traveling, I just like to listen as I go. That’s why I sold my sds100. The only other option besides the 325 would be a Unication G5. I may just try the 325 and see what happens.

Thank you again for your input!👍

Hmmm. Ok then..I travel around those same areas at times. Thank you for your input, it really helps.

I found the 325P2/996P2 both unusable in Southeastern Connecticut. I tried swapping antennas, I tried setting them up in a single location rather than in my truck, and they were both consistently unusable. The SDS100 and SDS200 both work as expected, with consistently positive results.
