I've just tried to install the TRX-1E software from the official Whistler website and my PC flags up that a virus has been detected in it.

My normal download folder. This isn't the first time I've downloaded something from an official website where the program has contained a virus.

Actually contained a virus, or received a false positive? Just because your virus software says it detected a virus doesn't mean there actually is one, could be an unsigned program, could be a false positive.

Why in the world would it matter or would I ask where you downloaded it to on your pc? I wanted to verify you used the correct source to download from. But more than likely it’s your AV software throwing a false positive.

Obviously you didn't read that I said I downloaded from the official website.Mentioning where I downloaded it to was the only other possible answer considering the information I had given?

Microsoft Security Essentials does flag TRX-1E+7.4.zip as containing malware. However only one of the 13 antivirus programs on Jotti finds malware. It's probably a false positive but that's not conclusive.

"official website" doesn't specify which website, @jtwalker was trying to help and make sure it came from the Whistler Downloads Site before he made a comment about it being safe. But, hey, guess everyone sees things differently.

Some antivirus programs are not as good as others. EZ-Scan uses a system of unzipping files and edit them and then zip them again with a password. Those actions can be detected as trying to lock your files on your harddrive with a ransomware password.

I use IOBit malware fighter that use Bitdefender and never have any issues that it doesn't detect virus or malware and have a minimum of false positives. IOBit uses a system that people can share their license codes so you often find a valid licence key on the Internet.
