Hey Everyone,

I am in the market for a new handheld, and came across the Whistler WS 1010 on Amazon:

Amazon.com: Whistler WS1010 Analog Handheld Scanner (Black): Electronics

My main Questions are These:

Is this Particular radio Hand Programmable (Not a Deal Breaker if Its not)?

Does this Radio receive Digital or Trunking Systems (Again, not a Deal Breaker if it Isn't)?

This radio will mostly be used for when I am Work (I am a Security Officer) and at home During power outages or major incidents that I would like to listen in on

Thanks,
Sean

The 1010 is not a digital scanner. The only digital scanners currently offered by Whistler, are:
WS1040
WS1065
WS1080
WS1095.
There are two new models to be released this fall, but haven't been released yet

The page for the WS-1010 in the wiki will give you everything you need to know about this scanner. But muskrat is correct, it is not digital, nor trunking. It is both hand and pc programmable, and its coverage ends at 512 MHz. However, not knowing where you live or what systems you would monitor, its possible such a scanner would satisfy your needs. Only you can answer that part of the equation. Mainly understand what you can monitor locally and research which scanners will work for your systems.

Thanks Guys. I live just north of Boston, and will be listening to mostly local police and fire. I also plan on updating my scanners over the next year to be P25 Digital capable for when the inevitable change over takes place.
