If Med Tec is going south and to a close then who will take over their run area? What is going on with them anyway?

P.J. Maguire

I would recommend reading up on this at www.kotv.com for answers. They claim that OTEMS (Oologah-Talala EMS) is ready to step in and take over if Med-Tec pulls out. Of course, they will need more trucks, and people to staff them. Most of the Med-Tec people will have jobs regardless of what happens. The news claims that is an issue but I don't buy it.

There may be some other stuff in the works besides OTEMS, only time will tell. As far as what's going on with Med-Tec....they claim that they aren't making enough money and that they need to be subsidized by the City of Claremore. Sounds about right though. I don't know all of the details.

KOTV's website should be a great resource.

Med Tec

The EMS director for OTEMS told me that they are gonna be hiring paramedics and EMT asap as soon as the red tape is finshed. he seemed pretty confident that They'll get the County.

OTEMS is presently dispatched by Northwest Fire and run on Northwest Fire District Frequency 153.7750.

See the latest news printed in the Claremore Progress today.
http://claremoreprogress.com/archive/article20752.

I know a few of the Medic on Med-TEC and there still some hope that they may still be in business after July.

There also been talk of having a public County Wide EMS service. But, this would not effect the present OTEMS EMS Disrict.

I wouldn't be surprised if Claremore's Fire Chief did not attempt to get the ambulance service. He was at Sand Springs before Claremore but prior to that he was at Stillwater for several years. Stillwater FD runs ambulance service and Brad was always pro fire running the ambulance. Plus with some financial problems Claremore was having a few years ago I believe they were going to lay off some firefighters. This would be a good way to get his firefighters back.

Ummm...no. The City of Claremore does not want to run an ambulance service.

You may be exactly right. I was just saying I have worked for Brad and I know that he would like to. Now if the city will let him do that might be another story. :D

Right. Well, there's another good story on www.kotv.com today about this whole Claremore situation.

The bottom line is this. Med-Tec wouldn't have the problems they have if they had a higher rate of payment for their services. CARE ambulance couldn't make it, now Med-Tec can't make it, and here's a news flash...no one else will make it in Claremore either UNLESS they get those subsidies like Med-Tec is asking for.

Why? A high percentage of the population in Rogers county has no insurance. :(

However, the city leaders in Claremore and county leaders in Rogers county need to step up to the plate and provide a service. Crazy? No, look at the majority of other ambulances services. These are all run by local government. Hey, they can provide police and fire services, but they can't provide EMS?

What would happen if the EMS folks got together and told some of the Claremore local government officials that next time Aunt Poody has a heart atttack, that maybe they should get the police to help load Aunt Poody up on the hosebed of that pumper truck. After all, the police and fire are all they want to pay for.

Something to think about.
