You're in Rhode Island? Perhaps closer, stronger stations to you transmitting on or in close proximity to the same frequencies? Could be intermod from a nearby cell tower or transmitter to you or RFI from an electrical source, many possibilities. Are you using the antenna that came with your scanner or an external antenna? Care to provide specific examples from the RRDB? Lastly for future reference it's always best to post region-specific questions to the appropriate state's forum (don't double-post). If you're seeking local feedback I'd advise clicking the report link beneath your opening post and asking for this thread to be relocated to the Massachusetts discussion forum

Why is MassStatePolice frequencies have heavy static like interfering signal?
Your Listening to Zone 3 or 4 of the Analog Smart Net 800 Mhz System and Tiverton RI is Far South West of the System Coverage.
Your going to need an outside antenna to get some signal.
I also would not compare it to the Digital Trunk RI System (Riscon) which is in Your Territory.

I'm on the Fall River, Westport line. The simulcast is at FBI tower in Freetown. I pick up the boston simucast sometimes better. Even in my mobile in North Fall river, same, pick up heavy static at times on Bristol and Metro transmitters. Almost sounds like some other transmistion cutting through causing this. It always did this, seems to be stronger in summer, maybe due to trees. Some days pretty clear, most times so strong transmitions are unreadable. Just wondering if anyone near me has the same problem

yes, and I rotate. I think it is the RISCON tower 200 ft from my home. They have been putting up more antennas on it, probably for data transmissions on 800mhz. I will try away from home. I get 5 bars on Bristol-Plymouth and Metro Boston sites, but a static , heavy at times, then clear as a bell for a short time

What are you using for a receiver? The older GRE's were garbage for 800 overload. I don't know about the new Whistlers, but I assume that hasn't changed.
The easiest way for you to tell is to go to the 800 Voice Channel frequencies of Zone 3, tune each one in manually, and open your squelch.
Look at your signal meter. If the squelch is open (static) but the signal meter is reflecting a somewhat strong signal, then your theory about the RISCON site causing interference is valid. It could also be some of the newer 600 MHz T Mobile crap too. They are usually fairly low and run at very high power. For most scanners, 200 Mhz well within the overload range of that. I have experienced it first hand.

I cant hear them from Cranston even with a dedicated 800 mhz yagi! But if I drive to warwick, especially at ccri I can hear them perfectly, no noise in my car with small tri band antenna! From home all I hear is about 80% static, like eggs frying and about 20% voice and thats on a good day. I know something has changed because I used to be able to pick them up from Cranston using a crappy homebrew vhf dipole fed with tv coax back in 2018. They must have done something because soon their signal became weaker and weaker to the point of more static than anything.
