I don't expect that "they" did anything. I do expect that like the OP, a local interference source is overloading the front end of your scanner, as mentioned numerous times in this thread.

It's like Groundhog Day.

I know something has changed because I used to be able to pick them up from Cranston using a crappy homebrew vhf dipole fed with tv coax back in 2018. They must have done something because soon their signal became weaker and weaker to the point of more static than anything.
NO, They must have NOT done something Bob. You're either subject to a degradation in your receive equipment. (Water got into a connector, or coax failure) OR you have a new interference source. I live and travel listening every day to them. Needham to Taunton, and there has been ZERO changes to the coverage area. There has been no work done and the RSSI remains constant. At the end of the day, not everything is someone else's issue. Aren't you an extra class ham? Shouldn't you understand all of this??

The static you hear a lot of the time on the legacy system we know colloquially as the MSP Crackle is the 20 year old analog system limping along on its last legs. The coverage of this system is rough in some areas and at some points drops off completely. Troopers in regions not digitized yet almost always use mobiles instead of portables because that is the best way for the system to work for them coverage-wise.
A lot of the crackle occurs from the analog simulcast sites having time and frequency reference clocks out of sync causing improper launch delay and hence static sounds on your scanner. The system is old, its no longer supported by the OEM and it's used all day every day virtually beating the hell out of it.

The NJSP SmartZone system was very hard to listen to in the past few years because of that awful crackling. Thankfully they finally put it out of its misery a month or so ago. Good riddance, long live the ASTRO 25 system.

Its not my gear. The coax is NEW LMR400 and antenna is OMNI X...coax run is 50 feet and up 30 feet. This is the only system I have trouble hearing and probably due to my location. When mobile I hear them fine. Regardless there is HEAVY static on their signal from my location. I have a big hill directly to my east and thats probably blocking the signal. When I get closer to the top of that hill (mobile) the static goes away. Then at crest and on downward side of hill reception good. I was just asking if anyone else might hear that static.

OK that explains some of it. I dont have ANY interference here on radios...dead quiet. Doesnt matter which antenna I use.....either my OMNI X or a 7 element 800 mhz yagi. I tried multiple positions for the yagi and it doesnt matter. The control channel comes in but its about 70% static and 30% voice. I just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the static too, thats all. However over in Warwick, MSP is FULL SCALE and quiet! It seems the hill near me blocking good reception.

You know Mike, your head will hurt a lot less if you stop banging it against the wall.

I'm medical, so I know!

I don't hear static, but did hear interesting stuff the other day on SOPS-1. Sounded like the old GANG-A guys busting thugs on dirtbikes around Lawrence. Multiple references to call Andover and let them know one is coming their way.. It seems that they've abandoned their old talkgroup and now use SOPS channels (and possibly other LTE based products) for their activities. I hadn't heard them in a while, last time was also a SOPS channel (forget which..6 or 7?)

Hot September Nights was patched into SOPS1 and BAPERN (AW4) for interop between the multiple LE Agencies taking down the Bikes/ATV's, They did the same in August down in Brockton
